What Is It

Adventure therapy goes beyond the clinic

Adventure therapy is an evidence-based therapeutic approach that uses outdoor activities and physical challenges to support mental health, emotional growth, and personal development. Rather than sitting in a room, participants engage with nature and real-world challenges — building skills that transfer directly into everyday life.

At Spring 2 Health, our adventure therapy programs are fully personalised to each participant. We work closely with you, your support coordinators, and your care team to design outdoor experiences that match your goals, abilities, and NDIS plan.

We operate across the Gold Coast and South East Queensland, taking advantage of the region’s stunning natural environments — from coastal walks and national parks to indoor climbing walls and bush camping sites.

Our Programs

What we do together

Every activity is chosen with purpose. We use the natural challenges of the outdoors as a therapeutic tool — helping participants push past perceived limits in a safe, supported environment.

Hiking & Bush Walking

From gentle coastal tracks to more challenging bush trails, hiking builds physical stamina, mindfulness, and a connection to nature. Each walk is planned around your current fitness level and goals, with our team providing support every step of the way.

Rock Climbing

Rock climbing is one of the most powerful tools in adventure therapy. It demands focus, problem-solving, and trust in yourself and your team. Both indoor wall sessions and outdoor natural climbing are available, scaled to each participant’s comfort and ability.

Camping & Overnight Programs

Multi-day camping experiences offer participants the chance to step out of their comfort zone in a sustained, supportive environment. Participants develop independence, cooperation, and emotional regulation in real-world conditions away from everyday stressors.

Water-Based Activities

Taking advantage of Gold Coast’s beautiful waterways, we offer kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding, and beach activities. Water-based programs are especially effective for regulation, sensory engagement, and building calm confidence.

Nature & Mindfulness

Grounded in ecotherapy principles, our nature and mindfulness sessions use structured time in natural settings to reduce anxiety, improve mood, and build self-awareness. Suitable for participants who need a gentler entry point into outdoor support.

Group Programs

Small-group adventure therapy sessions create opportunities for peer connection, social skill development, and shared achievement. We support groups at up to a 1:3 ratio (one worker to three participants) to ensure every person receives genuine individual attention.

Who We Support

Adventure therapy is for everyone

We tailor every program to the individual. Our participants include children, teenagers, young adults, and adults — all with different needs, goals, and diagnoses.

 Youth & Teenagers

Young People (8–25)

Adventure therapy is particularly powerful for young people navigating mental health challenges, behavioural difficulties, or social isolation. Outdoor challenge builds self-belief and social skills in ways traditional therapy often cannot replicate.

 Adults

Adults with Mental Health Needs

For adults living with anxiety, depression, trauma, or psychosocial disability, our programs offer a fresh, nature-based approach to building wellbeing and daily functioning. NDIS participants with psychosocial disability are especially welcome.

 Referrals

Referred Participants

We work closely with support coordinators, allied health professionals, social workers, schools, and family members who are seeking an innovative, evidence-based outdoor option for the people they support. Referrals are welcomed and responded to promptly.

Why It Works

The proven benefits of adventure therapy

Builds Resilience

Completing outdoor challenges teaches participants that they can face and overcome difficulty — a skill that transfers directly into daily life and mental health recovery.

Improves Mental Health

Time in nature has strong evidence behind it for reducing anxiety, depression, and stress. Combined with therapeutic support, the impact is amplified significantly.

Boosts Self-Esteem

Successfully navigating a rock climb or completing a hike creates genuine, earned confidence — not just words of encouragement, but lived evidence of capability.

Develops Social Skills

Group programs and supported outdoor experiences create authentic opportunities to practise communication, teamwork, and trust with others in a low-pressure setting.

Regulation & Mindfulness

The sensory richness of natural environments supports emotional regulation, helping participants develop a calmer, more grounded baseline in day-to-day life.

Goal Achievement

Adventure therapy is goal-directed. Every program is tied to your NDIS goals — we document progress and outcomes so your plan reflects the real gains you make.

Common Questions

Frequently asked questions

Do participants need to be physically fit to join?
Absolutely not. Every program is tailored to the individual’s current fitness level, mobility, and abilities. We start where you are — not where we think you should be. Our team has experience supporting participants with a wide range of physical and cognitive abilities.
Is adventure therapy safe?
Yes. Safety is our highest priority. All activities are risk-assessed and conducted by experienced, qualified staff. We use appropriate safety equipment for all climbing and outdoor activities, and all programs are designed to provide manageable challenge — not reckless risk.
Can my support coordinator make a referral?
Yes — in fact, most of our referrals come through support coordinators, allied health professionals, and other service providers. Use our referral form or contact us directly and we will respond within 2 business days.
What areas do you service?
We are based on the Gold Coast and service participants across South East Queensland, including Brisbane, Logan, Scenic Rim, and Tweed Coast. Contact us if you’re unsure whether we cover your area.
How do I know if adventure therapy is right for my participant?
The best way is to have a conversation with us. We’ll ask about the participant’s goals, current support needs, and any relevant history. From there we can advise on whether our programs are a good fit and what a trial session might look like. There’s no obligation.
Do you work with CAMHS or other mental health services?
Yes. We actively collaborate with CAMHS, GPs, psychologists, occupational therapists, and other allied health professionals. We can form part of a broader care team and will share progress notes and updates as required with the participant’s consent.
